Overview

Demilitarised Zone – Most of the bases and bunkers have long vanished, but this 5km strip of land on either side of the Ben Hai River is still known by its American War moniker: the DMZ. From 1954 to 1975 it acted as a buffer between the North and the South. Ironically, the DMZ became one of the most militarised areas in the world, forming what Time magazine called ‘a running sore

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Vietnam’s Demilitarized Zone, or DMZ, is the area around the former border between North and South Vietnam. Historically it was a narrow band of terrain extending from the Laos border to the coast, five km on either side of the Ben Hai River, roughly on the 17th parallel north latitude.
  • The area saw heavy fighting in the war, and ruins of old American military bases still exist. Even if you’re not interested in history, the area has some spectacular mountain scenery and rugged jungles.
  • While the actual border was marked by the Ben Hai river, most historical sights (i.e., American bases) are along Highway 9, which runs parallel to the river several km to the south. This road runs to the Lao border and continues onward.

ITINERARY

7:00 AM-7h30 AM. Our guide and car will pick you up at your hotel in Hue city, then transfer Ho Chi Minh trail. You also have chance to meet Paco minority people in the Viet Nam Central. The last place of this day trip is Khe Sanh Combat Base.
Lunch: Free for lunch
Afternoon: Our guide and car take you back to the war sites including Frame of Church, Dong Ha Town, Hien Luong Bridge - Ben Hai River, Doc Mieu Base. Vinh Moc Tunnels, Museum Tunnels (Highlight)
Then the drive transfers you back to Hue around 06.00 PM Tour ends at hotel in Hue.
